Trauma-Informed Yoga Videos

Trauma-Informed Yoga Videos

Presented by trauma-certified and professional yoga teachers, Parkside offers this series as a free alternative to a group class and created for a variety of different audiences (children, adolescents, and adults) that cover a variety of topics (anxiety, addiction, meditation).

Generously funded by the Hardesty Family Foundation, Parkside’s trauma-informed yoga is designed to help calm the mind and regulate physical responses and emotions.  Unlike traditional yoga, our Trauma-Informed Yoga series places emphasis on the internal experience of the individual, not on achieving proper form.

Have you heard the phrase, ‘The issues live in the tissues’?  It’s because trauma takes a heavy toll on the body and the brain.

According to the National Institutes of Health, individuals are likely to experience hyperarousal, hypervigilance, and an inability to calm themselves when the body absorbs and anticipates trauma.  In effect, the body — in a response to trauma — begins dampening down or shutting off sensation as a defense response and essentially becoming numb.

One of the purposes of trauma-informed yoga is to recognize and tolerate physical sensations in order to regain a feeling of safety inside your body. Everything about the practice is optional, gentle, and designed to help simplify the connection between the mind and the body.

Our goal is to share this powerful tool as a free public resource in order to develop and deepen coping skills through yoga’s mindfulness.  A special thanks again to the Hardesty Family Foundation for funding that allowed this project to be created and available to the public.
